Why Arsenal may not show any loyalty to Danny Welbeck

Arsenal & Danny Welbeck

To state the obvious, it’s been a horrific few days for Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck suffered a shocking ankle injury in last week’s Europa League match against Sporting CP.

The Gunners striker is likely to miss the rest of the season after breaking his ankle in gruesome fashion.

The latest update on Welbeck is that the Arsenal striker has already had his second operation since the injury.

Welbeck’s injury has happened at a terrible time in the forward’s career.

After scoring five goals for the Gunners this term, Welbeck had been recalled to the England squad.

Arsenal may not show any loyalty to Danny Welbeck

Yet, the bigger problem facing Welbeck is what will happen after this season ends.

Welbeck is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season.

In recent days rumours had been flying about that Welbeck could be set to join Crystal Palace.

However that deal, and any deal, have surely been shelved following his terrible ankle break.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live radio, Kieron Dyer – a man who knows everything there is to know about career threatening injuries – has expressed his fears that Arsenal will show no loyalty to Welbeck in the long term.

Dyer commentated that “the injury is worrying for Welbeck as he was going to ‘do a Bosman’… Do Arsenal show some loyalty, or do Arsenal go ‘hand on a minute. You were about to do a Bosman – what loyalty were you showing to us?”

Dyer noted that Welbeck, 27, must be concerned about being unemployed with massive medical bills stacking up at the end of the season.
