Tottenham & Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon
The Telegraph have dropped a nugget of information regarding Tottenham’s ongoing interest in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
Sessegnon, 19, has long been rumoured to be a target for Spurs.
And, according to the broadsheet, Tottenham retain plans to sign the teenager:
Spurs remain committed to the signing of Fulham 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon whom they see as a long-term successor to (Danny) Rose.
Sessegnon has always preferred a move to Spurs and with one year remaining on his contract will have to be sold this summer by the Championship club.
So Spurs view Sessegnon as a defender?
The natural conclusion to draw from the Telegraph’s update is that if Sessegnon signs for Spurs, he’d likely be deployed at left-back.
While Sessegnon can play anywhere on the left-side, the youngster has often thrived in a more attacking role.
So will Spurs sign Sessegnon this summer?
The way the Telegraph tell the story, that may depend on Danny Rose.
Rose has been omitted from Tottenham’s pre-season tour. However, that doesn’t mean the England international is assured of leaving Spurs:
Should there be no offer that is acceptable to club and player then Rose will be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s first team squad for the start of next season.
To be clear, the Telegraph offer no insight on whether Tottenham will actually pull the trigger in an attempt to sign Fulham’s Sessegnon before the start of the new season.
Meanwhile, Sessegnon only has a year to run on his Fulham contract.
Last season, as Fulham were relegated from the Premier League, Sessegnon only scored two goals and chipped in with six assists.
