Costa Rica’s roster for its upcoming friendly with the US men’s national team is out, and there’s plenty of MLS representation to be found.
LA Galaxy defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, Portland Timbers winger Marvin Loria, New York City FC defender Ronald Matarrita, D.C. United defender Joseph Mora, Columbus Crew SC midfielder Luis Diaz, Nashville SC midfielder Randall Leal and D.C. United midfielder Ulises Segura are all featured on manager Ronald Gonzalez’s 23-man squad for the bout with the Yanks, which is set for Feb. 1 at Dignity Health Sports Park (3:55 ET, ESPNews, UniMás and TUDN)

Of the group, Matarrita leads the way in MLS appearances, with 85 for NYCFC since 2016. The 25-year-old defender has three goals in 26 senior caps for Costa Rica dating back to 2015.
Gonzalez, 31, has the most senior caps in the group with 71 since 2010 and made 20 appearances for the Galaxy last season. He’s in the midst of his second stint in MLS after making 17 appearances for Columbus in 2014.
Mora, a 27-year-old defender, has been with D.C. United since 2018, starting 18 of his 20 appearances last season and picking up one assist in 1,595 minutes. He’ll be joined by fellow DCU man Segura, who has five goals in 56 appearances for the club since 2018.
Loria, 22, scored two goals in 19 games for the Timbers last season and has another eight goals to his name across 40 appearances in USL Championship play with Timbers 2. The 21-year-old Diaz is the youngest of the group, coming off a debut MLS season in Columbus that saw him net two goals. The midfielder picked up his first senior cap last year.
The group is rounded out by Leal, 26, who joined Nashville ahead of its expansion season after a stint with Costa Rican side Saprissa, where he netted eight goals in 47 appearances.
