Proof Wilfried Zaha is unfairly treated after Ashley Barnes vs Southampton

Crystal Palace supporters have been left questioning the consistency of Premier League officiating after Ashley Barnes’ furious reaction to not being awarded a penalty against Southampton.

The incident follows Wilfried Zaha being shown a second yellow card for sarcastically applauding the referee after being booked.

However, Ashley Barnes, having just been booked for diving, was not punished for his reaction to being shown yellow.

Zaha vs the Premier League: Lack of consistency slammed after Ashley Barnes incident vs Southampton

SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 30: Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace (R) applauds Match Referee Andre Marriner after being shown a yellow card which leads to his sending-off during the Premier League match between Southampton FC and Crystal Palace at St Mary’s Stadium on January 30, 2019 in Southampton, United Kingdom. Barnes was fuming with the referee after he failed to win a penalty and was instead booked for simulation.

The 29-year-old squared up to Anthony Taylor and was shouting in the officials face.

However, he managed to avoid being shown a second yellow for his dissent.

His reaction was no worse than Zaha’s sarcastic appulse towards Andre Marriner on Wednesday which saw him booked.

The Ivorian has already been surrounded in controversy over his treatment from Premier League officials.

This afternoon’s incident at Turf Moor will certainly not help the officials’ case with Barnes avoiding a second yellow.
