Nicolas Otamendi leaves Argentina’s squad before Norwich

Nicolas Otamendi sent home before Norwich

When the Premier League restarts next weekend, reigning champs Man City travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich.

Who will Pep Guardiola play at centre-half against the Canaries?

In a potentially big blow to the Sky Blues, it’s been confirmed that Nicolas Otamendi has been sent back to Manchester this weekend.

That’s after Otamendi played for 90 minutes for Argentina against Chile on Thursday.

So is Otamendi injured?

Argentine news outlet Ole confirm that Otamendi’s return to Manchester was scheduled.

Indeed, ESPN have suggested that Otamendi’s Manchester return is due to “personal reasons”.

However, with that said it’s still a little unclear why Otamendi has left international duty early.

Man City’s defensive problems

Otamendi is arguably Pep Guardiola’s first-choice centre-half right now.

That’s after Aymeric Laporte suffered a terrible knee injury against Bournemouth.

During the international break, Man City have confirmed that Laporte has had an operation on his knee.

According to reports, the French defender is likely to miss the next four to five months of action.

One assumed that Otamendi will line up alongside John Stones for the away trip to Norwich next weekend.

However, if Otamendi is unavailable, Stones and Fernandinho could play at the heart of City’s backline. Otamendi
