Newcastle interested in signing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka on loan – Telegraph

Arsenal & Xhaka

Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka has been one of the bigger talking points in football recently.

The midfield powerhouse garnered a fair bit of attention when he was walking off the pitch vs Crystal Palace last month.

Xhaka would cup his ear and swear as some of the Arsenal faithful booed him.

Since the Palace incident, Xhaka has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy and Unai Emery has also said he is unsure if the 27-year-old will play for the Gunners again.

The midfielder has been omitted from all four of Arsenal’s matchday squads since being taken off vs Crystal Palace.

Xhaka to Newcastle?

Xhaka is currently under contract with Arsenal until 2023.

But he could be on his way out of North London in the near future.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in signing Xhaka on loan in January, if he wishes to remain in the Premier League.

The report from the Telegraph claims Serie A outfit AC Milan are thought to be favourites to land Xhaka but Steve Bruce is monitoring the situation.

Xhaka is said to want to leave Arsenal in order to play regularly and to ensure he is part of Switzerland’s European Championship squad in the summer, as per the Telegraph.

Steve Bruce has also previously spoken about Xhaka’s links to Newcastle but he didn’t give too much away:

“Granit Xhaka?”

“Look, I was only in the job two weeks and I was linked with 42 players. So I am not going to comment on anybody else’s players.

“He is a very good player.” As quoted by the Mirror.
