Liverpool, West Ham linesman given “weekend to go shopping” by PGMOL

Given the weekend off

Premier League linesman Simon Beck has been “given the weekend to go shopping” after his blunder during West Ham vs Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds travelled to London to face off against West Ham in a hugely important game.

Liverpool needed to win to keep a gap between them and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Though, Liverpool drew the game against West Ham and that allowed Pep Guardiola’s City to go top on goal difference after winning against Everton on Wednesday evening.

Even with the Reds dropping points dominating the headlines, one other incident grasped the attention of everyone watching.

That incident was involving linesman Simon Beck who failed to spot an obvious offside in the build-up to Liverpool’s goal.

Unfortunately for him, the position he took up meant he made it difficult for himself to spot it.

Should that goal have been disallowed, West Ham could have won and City wouldn’t be joint top, rather one point clear.

Dropped for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures

Now, Beck has reportedly been dropped from the Premier League fixtures this weekend.

According to the Mirror, Beck has been spoken to by his bosses and “given the weekend to go shopping”, according to a source.’

Speaking after the game, Manuel Pellegrini was furious with the linesman.

“For the first goal [Milner] was one and a half metres offside but if you see the linesman he was watching the ball, not the line,” he explained.

The report also explains that ‘PGMOL are understood to be sympathetic to his [Pellegrini’s] point of view.’
