Paul Clement says he still has nightmares about Reading ‘s 4-0 drubbing by Ipswich Town at the end of last season.
Royals needed just a point to confirm their Championship status back in April but were demolished by the Trator Boys in emphatic style at a stunned Madejski Stadium.
The game was 0-0 in the 70th minute, but a spectacular collapse by Royals – in their final home game of the season – saw them comfortably beaten.
The two sides go head-to-head once again on Saturday and Clement recalled : “I’m still having nightmares from that fixture, it was incredible.
“That was with a caretaker manager but they’ve now got an experienced one [Paul Lambert].
“He’s had another week with the team so we have to expect a really fired up Ipswich team.”
Both sides have started the 2018/19 season in poor fashion with just five wins between them from 32 games.
Town prop up the division with just 10 points from 16 games, while Royals are only two places and five points better off.
“Hardest game of the season”
Reading are in confident mood having beaten Bristol City 3-2 last weekend – their third home win in four matches at the Mad Stad.
However, Clement says his players must not underestimate their opponents , and has called it the ‘hardest game of the season’ for his side.
“I think this is a very complicated game,” admitted Royals’ boss. “If I, the players or the fans think this is going to be easy then they are wrong.
“Ipswich are a team who have struggled and only won once this season but they are fighting for their football lives, like we are.
“So that makes it a very, very hard game. Paul Lambert and the players will be searching for their first win.
“It’s going to be a very difficult game and we should expect our hardest game of the season.”
Football.London will be providing live coverage of this Saturday’s game, with all of the build-up starting at 12pm. Kick-off is at 3pm.
