Frank Lampard’s men are set to welcome the Magpies to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, for their first outing following the international break.

Hosts Chelsea head into proceedings having begun to find their feet under the guidance of their new boss of late.

The Blues’ last 4 outings across all competitions have seen them notch 4 wins.

The latest of these came two weekends ago, when the capital giants put Southampton to the sword by 4 goals to 1 at St. Mary’s.

Chelsea squad update

However, Chelsea will no doubt be cursing the latest international break ahead of their meeting with Newcastle this weekend.

Having had their momentum halted by Euro 2020 qualifiers and friendlies alike, the Londoners have since seen a whole host of the club’s key performers pick up injury problems whilst with their respective national squads.

The likes of Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen all suffered fitness issues over the last week.

As such, as outlined above, respected Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella has this evening provided an update on the Blues’ squad.

Of the aforementioned quartet, the Blues’ medical team are said to be working hard in a bid to have all of James, Kante and Kovacic fit for this weekend.

Christensen, though, is a major doubt, having picked up a hamstring problem.

Emerson, meanwhile, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury of his own since last month, also remains a doubt to feature on Saturday.

There is positive news on fellow stopper Antonio Rudiger, though, with the German international being ‘readied for a return to first-team action’.

The Newcastle clash looks likely to be too soon for the former Roma man, however, meaning Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori are likely to get the nod at the heart of the Chelsea backline.
