Barcelona ‘broke confidentiality pact’ with Bayern Munich

As per a report from Spanish outlet AS, Barcelona’s decision to announce the terms of their deal with Bayern Munich over Philippe Coutinho saw the Blaugrana break confidentiality.

Bayern switch

Following months of rampant speculation, Coutinho’s future was finally decided yesterday.

Despite links with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and PSG, the Brazilian put pen-to-paper on a deal with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Coutinho has made the move to Bavaria on loan for the season, with an option to buy next summer:

Barca break pact?

The financial terms of the deal were also revealed by Barcelona, with the Catalan giants having released a statement, confirming the following:

‘Bayern Munich will pay 8.5 million euros and the player’s wages. The agreement also sees an option to buy for Bayern fixed at 120 million euros.’

As per the aforementioned report from AS, though, in doing so, Barca actually broke the terms of a pact with Bayern, whereby the details of Coutinho’s transfer were not intended to be released to the public.

The German giants’ statement regarding their latest addition’s arrival revealed that ‘all parties have agreed not to disclose any financial details of the agreement.’

Evidently, this is at odds with Barcelona’s announcement, with AS suggesting that a ‘secret pact’ between the two clubs was therefore broken.

The following potential explanation is also put forward for the Spanish champions’ decision:

‘It may be that there was a desire in the Camp Nou offices to get these financial details out there in the open with their annual assembly coming up.’
