Arsenal react to Ozil’s political Uighur comments but not Hector Bellerin’s

Arsenal react to Mesut Ozil’s Uighur comments

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has triggered the Chinese government this weekend following a post on his social media accounts.

Ozil, a well-known Muslim, used his social platforms to speak out about the treatment of the Uighurs in China.

The German World Cup winner posted the following message:

[In China] Qurans are burned, mosques were closed down, Islamic theological schools, madrasas were banned, religious scholars were killed one by one.

Despite all this, Muslims stay quiet.

Don’t they know that giving consent for persecution is persecution itself?

The honorable Ali, son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, says, ‘If you cannot prevent persecution, expose it.

Arsenal have since reacted to Ozil’s comments on the Chinese social network Weibo.

Arsenal have distanced themselves from Ozil’s post:

The content he expressed is entirely Ozil’s personal opinion.

As a football club, Arsenal always adheres to the principle of not being involved in politics.

Arsenal pulled from CCTV for Tottenham

In reaction to Ozil’s comments, China’s state-run CCTV have decided to pull their scheduled broadcast of Arsenal vs Man City this weekend.

Instead, CCTV will broadcast Wolves against Tottenham.

Hector Bellerin’s UK election tweet

Last Thursday, as Britons went to the polls, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin posted an eye-catching tweet on social media.

In it, Bellerin urged his followers to vote for Labour.

Bellerin explicitly cursed out Tory leader Bors Johnson in his tweet.

Social media reaction to Arsenal

Since Arsenal’s statement on Ozil has spread, many have called out the Gunners for a lack of consistency.

Why did Arsenal react to Ozil but not Bellerin?
