Arsenal targeting Gbamin
Arsenal are interested in signing Mainz’s Philippe Gbamin in the summer transfer window, according to the Express.
Gbamin made the switch to Mainz in July of 2016 from French side Lens for a fee of around £4.5m.
The 23-year-old has gone on to play 83 games for Mainz across all competitions.
In those 83 games, he has scored three and assisted three for the German outfit.
Gbamin is naturally a centre defensive midfielder, a position he has played 86 times in his career.
However, he can also play at centre-back and at right-back.
Mainz are said to want around 30 million Euros for Gbamin whose Mainz contract is up in 2023.
Arsenal’s poor defensive record
Given Arsenal’s rather shaky defence it is no surprise they are being linked with Gbamin.
The Gunners have the worst defensive record of the top six clubs, letting in 37 goals in 26 league games.
Arsenal have also failed to keep a clean sheet in all 12 of their away Premier League games under Unai Emery.

Arsenal even failed to do so in their last game which saw them beat Huddersfield 2-1.
Huddersfield had scored just 13 goals in 25 league games before Arsenal, the lowest in the league.
They were also yet to register a goal under their new boss, but they still managed to score past Arsenal.
