As per a report from the Guardian, Premier League newcomers Aston Villa are keen on the loan signing of Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu.
Ampadu, an 18-year-old central-defender who can also play in a defensive midfield role, came up through the youth ranks of Exeter City, before making the move to Chelsea in 2017.
And the young stopper has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded starlets on the books of the Blues.
Despite his tender years, Ampadu emerged as a regular member of Chelsea’s first-team squad this past season, even going on to notch a none-too-shabby 8 appearances across all competitions.
In addition, the gifted teen has already racked up 8 caps for Wales.
With the likes of David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all ahead of him in the central-defensive pecking order at Stamford Bridge, however, the path to a starting berth week-in, week-out, looks a rocky one for Ampadu at present.
As such, one club hoping to take advantage of this situation are Aston Villa.
As per the aforementioned report from the Guardian, Dean Smith’s Premier League newcomers hope to coax Ampadu away from London this summer on a loan deal.
Chelsea legend John Terry, now the assistant manager at Villa Park, is said to have recommended Ampadu to the Villans’ board, after training alongside the Welshman during a brief stint back with the Blues last summer.
Villa are also said to have attempted to secure the stopper’s signing last year, only to be rejected by Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea, for their part, though, are as of now undecided on their plans for Ampadu.
With the Londoners’ board braced for Sarri’s exit, they are likely to wait for the Italian’s replacement to run the rule over the 18-year-old, before making a decision on whether or not to allow Ampadu to depart for the 2019/20 campaign..
