David Ornstein on Laurent Koscielny
The big absentee from Arsenal’s squad is their club captain: 33-year-old Laurent Koscielny.
Prior to Arsenal’s squad announcement, the club confirmed that Koscielny has refused to go on the tour.
In a remarkable statement posted on the Arsenal website, fans have been told the following:
Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour.
We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.
BBC reporter David Ornstein has now reported on how the Koscielny situation unraveled.
As per his understanding, Koscielny told Arsenal that he wouldn’t fly on Wednesday.
The club have yet to strip him of the captaincy, however the situation is that Koscielny “must train or breach contract.”
Amid transfer rumours linking the centre-half with Bordeaux and Rennes, Ornstein confirmed that Arsenal haven’t received any offers for Koscielny.
Arsenal/Koscielny talks late last season looked +ve. Back from break, asked for release, refused. Relayed tour decision Wed, confirmed @ Colney today. Flight 1230 without him. Not stripped of captaincy yet, must train or breach contract. #AFC have no offers, he does if free agent
